How would you prepare for a trip to the Nurburgring?

I’m going in July. I’ve been once before, did 5 laps, fried my brain, still couldn’t remember where the track went!!

Tried learning the track on a PS2 game, but I’m no good with the controller, and I don’t enjoy computer games at all. Any other suggestions?

My youngest son put his Supra on there last June, had a fantastic time but was overtaken by a little old lady of 75 in a Merc. who said later she had nothing to lose! The lads loved her and bought her a drink – fortunately her grandson was there to take her home! Wow, go lady go!

Make a will, think hard about your family, and also consider spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair.

If you still decide to go ahead, good luck to you !

Nurburgring is not that hard to learn, just a nightmare to remember the order.

Make some pace notes: shorthand with corner direction, severity and grading for speed like the rally drivers. If you want to be obsessive and you know your approximate lap times you could make a CD with verbal pace notes and play it as you drive. (”watch out for the trees”, “O my god I’m doing 255!”)

A satnav with a good graphical display could also be handy as it is a public road.

Remember a lap is cheap, but being recovered is expensive, being swept up is even more. Think safety – tyres, brakes, wheel bearings – and your driving skills. Your insurers will laugh if you bend it, they won’t pay out!
